An Inside Look at the Authentify Process

For the end user, the Authentify process is simple. But behind the user interface lays a carefully coordinated network of technology and expertly designed processes. This system is what enables Authentify to deliver powerful, secure authentication in any situation.

1. User Begins Authentication Session
The user begins the authentication session via his or her Internet session or corporate network. A server handling that authentication request sends a secure XML message to an Authentify server. The message contains the user's telephone number and other application specific instructions.

2. Out-of-Band Authentication in Process
Authentify's server places an automated outbound telephone call to the user's phone over the Public Switched Telephone Network, (PSTN). Simultaneously, Authentify's server, via XML messaging instructs the server handling the user's request to display a specific random confirmation number to be displayed on the user's screen.

3. Out-of-Band Authentication is Completed
The user answers the telephone. The call prompts the user to enter the displayed confirmation code and other authenticating information by speaking the numbers or entering them with the phone keypad. The session is recorded, creating a solid audit trail and serving as a powerful deterrent to unauthorized users.

4.

User is Verified
A confirmation code match confirms that a specified phone, computer and user are in the same place at the same time. Authentify sends the results of the authentication session back to the requesting server.

The user has been authenticated.
