Authentify’s Call Forward Detection Stops Fraudsters Attempting to By-Pass
Out-of-Band Authentication

Chicago, IL – March 13, 2010 – Authentify, Inc., the global leader in out-of-band authentication solutions, today announced the inclusion of call forward detection to the company’s suite of data products available for U.S. based authentication transactions.

Call forward detection alerts clients when an out-of-band authentication phone call is directed to a phone other than the phone number dialed. In a typical out-of-band authentication call, the end user chooses a phone number presented during the web session and receives a verification phone call confirming transaction details. If a fraudster armed with the correct account details, such as username and password, is able to hijack an account, he must also have the ability to answer the out-of-band phone call to complete the transaction. Attempting to redirect the call involves convincing a phone company operator to forward calls to a phone number under the fraudster’s control. With Authentify’s network-level access to phone call data, clients are alerted of a forwarded call, giving them the option of stopping the transaction. “With any online safeguard, no matter the amount of technology involved, the old-fashioned ‘human engineering’ factor presents a threat,” states Andy Rolfe, Vice President of Development for Authentify. “Unlike other authentication providers, Authentify’s call forward detection helps eliminate that threat by making its calls through SS7 level telephone switching equipment and using advanced data analysis to ensure a call has not been forwarded from its intended number.” Call forward detection is available as part of Authentify’s Global Telephone Data Services suite of data products designed to provide critical insights about the authentication phone calls it places on behalf of clients around the world.
