Authentify Named 2009 Finextra Innovator
London, U.K., – Feb 13, 2009 – Finextra Research Ltd. today announced that Authentify has been certified as a 2009 Finextra Innovator in the Authentication and Security category. Authentify’s selection was based on its recent integration with HSBC, the world’s largest bank by asset size, which will use the Authentify technology to protect online transactions.
According to Elton Crane, Strategy Director at Finextra, “At first glance, using the telephone for authentication doesn't seem particularly innovative. But when seen as part of a total security strategy, and the fact that the call is synchronised to the online session that triggered the need for authentication, the Authentify solution is a useful tool in the bank's arsenal against keystroke loggers and man in the middle exploits.” Authentify incorporated the telephone into an out-of-band (OOB) authentication process precisely because it is a mature technology with which consumers are familiar. “Many consumers and e-banking users are resistant to smart cards, cipher cards, tokens and other form factors for authenticating their identities or online transactions”, offered Peter Tapling, President and CEO of Authentify. “On the other hand, today many people are seldom separated from their telephones.” The Authentify process does not require the distribution of phone based client software resulting in a security layer that is practical for both e-banking and e-commerce site owners as well as their users.
