FraudChaser™ by Authentify Debuts at ISPCON Fall 2005

New service designed to help ISP’s defeat fraudulent registrations by phishers and spammers using fake ID’s or stolen credit cards.

Santa Clara , CA., October 18, 2005 -- Authentify Inc., the leader in telephone-based authentication solutions, unveiled its new service, FraudChaser TM, today at the 2005 ISPCON Conference. FraudChaser™ offers ISP’s an automated authentication solution to cut down on fraudulent account applications by applicants providing false information. FraudChaser™ requires an online account applicant to answer an automated telephone call synchronized to their registration session. It requires an exchange only that user controlling both a specific computer and a specific telephone can successfully complete.

“ISPs of all sizes face the risk of fraudulent credit card transactions used for new orders, which negatively impacts their bottom-line.” said Peter Tapling, President and CEO of Authentify, Inc. “FraudChaser provides a cost effective, easy-to-implement way for ISPs to make sure they know to whom they are providing services.”

Authentify has proven an effective protection mechanism for ISPs fighting the problem of phishers and spammers registering for services with stolen credit cards. The FTC cites Internet access services as the 3 rd leading cause of Internet-related fraud complaints, trailing only online auctions and online catalog sales. 1 In one case, an Authentify customer saw this type of fraud drop to near zero in the month they turned on the telephone authentication service. "Since we started using Authentify’s service, we have virtually eliminated credit card fraud and spamming/phishing activities,” said Dan Ushman, the head of operations for Chicago based Mid-Phase Hosting. “Criminals are simply not willing to provide their real phone number, much less answer the phone call necessary to validate the transaction.”

Authentify has been offering custom forms of its patented authentication services since 2001and has helped authenticate the users behind more than 10 million transactions on behalf of its customers which, besides MidPhase Hosting include the likes of VeriSign, Hewlett Packard, GeoTrust and others. FraudChaser™ represents Authentify’s first effort to offer users a standardized service for which ISP’s or other retailers may provision their Web sites from an automated Web-based implementation site.
