Greater Confidence in Web User identity rings up sales increase for Associated Bank
CHICAGO, IL - October 18, 2004 - Speaking at the annual SpeechTek Conference held in New York, Leonard Rowe, SVP and Director of e-business for Associated Bank, had the audiences’ attention when he challenged the idea that increased security made online banking more inconvenient. “Our experience is just the opposite,” offered Rowe. “Our ability to offer additional online products to users, whose digital identity we have more confidence, makes online banking more convenient for them and more profitable for us.”
Associated Bank began using a verification process that places an outbound telephone call to their online users and capture voiceprints about a year ago. The process, developed by Authentify, Inc. of Chicago has made quite an impact at the bank. The application can be used for PIN replacement, credit application signing, and fund transfers. According to Mr. Rowe, calls coming into their call center for online PIN replacement have been cut by 75% and sales of online loan and credit products are up. “The cost savings is our call center and the sales increase produced a return on investment in just over nine months,” said Rowe.
Rowe had been invited to speak at SpeechTek after event organizers learned he had successfully deployed Associated Bank’s speech enabled Web application. Associated is one of the first banks in the country to deploy this type of technology.
