Authentify Celebrates 10 Years Since Product Launch at RSA 2001
Introduced at RSA 2001, clients now include Amazon.com, Bof A, Docusign, e-Bay, FIS Global, Lloyd's Bank, Microsoft, PayPal, RSA, Verisign, Yelp – many others.
As the curtain rises on the 2011 RSA Conference, Authentify is commemorating the 10th Anniversary of its product launch. Authentify introduced the security market to phone-based 2-Factor authentication at the 2001 Expo. Since then, Authentify has managed several hundreds of millions of authentication transactions for its diverse client base.
Peter Tapling, President & CEO of Authentify recalls that portraying the telephone as an authentication tool was not easy at first. "We introduced a completely different approach to 2-factor authentication. Using the telephone as a security tool was innovative thinking in 2001. We had Kevin Mitnick, the infamous phone network hacker in our booth to kick things off. We were controversial then, but today, 4 of the 6 finalists for the SC Awards in the multifactor authentication category use some form of Authentify's process."
Over the years, Authentify has received numerous awards and accolades. Among Tapling's favorites, a Computerworld Case Study Award for a phone based process deployed at Hewlett Packard, the 2006 SC Awards for Best Biometric Authentication and 2-Factor Authentication and Frost & Sullivan's Global Product Innovation Award.
Art Coviello, Executive Chairman and one of the founders of RSA, the Security Division of EMC congratulated Authentify, "They joined us early, and I'm happy they've been able to participate for 10 years in a row."
Hoyt L. Kesterson, former Chairman of the X.509 Standards Committee, attending his 19th RSA conference this year also recalls Authentify's launch. "The conference didn't always have vendor expo and the first year it did we had eight vendors. In '01, among a group of vendors selling encryption tools and firewalls, Authentify introduced us to phone-based out-of-band authentication. It filled a need many of us had overlooked and it's only gotten more valuable since."
Authentify will be in BOOTH 1029 at the EXPO.
Authentify provides global online authentication services based on using an end user's telephone as an authentication tool. An automated phone call, when synchronized with an online event, enables the end user's telephone to become an effective proxy for a security credential. Authentify offers authentication schemas to suit many application requirements including user authentication and real time transaction approval or cancellation. Authentify offers a strong security process that is difficult to spoof. Voice channel and SMS options are available. The process thwarts todays biggest threats to online commerce including keystroke loggers and other advanced persistent threats such as Zeus/Zbot, Carberp and others.
Authentify kicked off the Conference experience at the Welcome Reception on Monday evening. Delegates and Expo Plus registrants enjoyed food and drinks and got exclusive access to exhibitors; networking with peers, and previewed cutting-edge products from more than 350 leading information security companies. We're excited for the rest of the week, we have already had some great people stop by, both new and familiar faces!
